Created after Pearl Harbor, the Grumman Avenger later became an important part of US Navy’s air fleet during World War II when it took on roles as a torpedo bomber and close air support. These aircraft were retired in the 1960s but the Pearl Harbor Aviation Museum has one on display to honor their contribution to the allies’ victory in World War II.
